The story of a young woman's wedding can work as an entertaining plot, as this movie could've, however, characters without any backstory certainly can't. Let me have one thing straight before getting started: using the soundtrack of classic ABBA's tunes does not dismiss a good plot or likable characters! Having that out of the way, lets continue...

Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is having her wedding and is expected to invite her family. What's wrong with this simple task is when she finds her mother's (Meryl Streep) diary and discovers that one of her three lovers could be her father. Not knowing which, she invites all three. This causes confusion between the characters that did not expect each other's presence.

Now, you might be asking yourself: "Wait a second, tell me about these possible fathers. What are they like? How about her husband? Who is he? Also, how about Sophie and her mother's friends? Where are they?" to which I respond: "exactly". These relatives are there just for the sake of being there, to go along with the plot with the minor impact possible. They have very weak personality and since the start of the wedding plans of this person we have no idea who it is, we don't care about her either.

The one that keeps you awake is the good singing of great songs by ABBA, despite getting Dancing Queen stuck in your head for the rest of the day, and the overall wish that something interesting will come. It doesn't.

A simple way to summarize is that it's a boring, pointless movie with nothing new, good singing and lack of characters with any story or personality, making it a perfect representation of 3.8 out of 10 stones.
