Bohemian Rhapsody attempts to pay tribute to Queen's legacy, with memorable visuals and a forgettable story. Though as a story on its own the film can be relatively successful, one can't help but imagine how much greater it would've been telling the story of Queen.

The bold and magical Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek) is the glue that brings three men together: guitarist Brian May (Gwilym Lee), bassist John Deacon (Joseph Mazzello) and drummer Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy). He faces many challenges in life, not only inside the group, but with his own personal life, family and the people around him. Though the band formed by the guys called Queen rapidly ascend to the Billboards, life doesn't get any easier as it can appear from an outside perspective.

Bryan Singer is very focused in telling the story that he wants: the life of Freddie Mercury. In order to achieve that, he presents the hardships he's had and his way to form the band. With the simple premise and lights on at all moments, Bohemian Rhapsody is an emotional film to re-live the times of what will always be a legendary rock band. Despite being referring to controversial themes, it manages to steadily build a comprehensible timeline for an enjoyable watch.

With such a safe bet and not offering much risks, one can't help but feel like this story has been told a million times before, take the Freddie Mercury out of the equation and we might as well be talking about any other band. The lack of ambition by the production and cast makes the plot dull, as at no time one is surprised by any event, regardless of knowing anything about their careers. The members of the band are rarely given the spotlight or even have an expressive personality to add some flavor, furthering the false idea that Freddie was the only one with talent and/or vision among them.

Being a Queen fan and watching Bohemian Rhapsody is no easy task, as the journey an innovative band is told by the lenses  of mediocrity. However, when rating objectively, the film does have its quality of producing an entertaining tale, making it worth 7.0 out of 10 stones.
