The directorial debut of Bradley Cooper and the 4th take on the story A Star Is Born proved to be a massive success, both for the average audience and the critics. The tale of polar opposite personalities, one skyrocketing towards fame and the other hitting rock bottom is the main reason why Hollywood never gives up on telling it over and over again.

Jack (Bradley Cooper) is an already established and widely known rock star that meets a talented woman called Ally (Lady Gaga). Their relationship slowly start to build up and despite Ally's shyness to have any kind of participation in Jack's big appearances, she eventually takes the chance that is given to her. All seems good until Jack's alcoholism begin to present itself as a major problem, taking everyone around him, including Ally in a downward spiral.

The concept for the story is very well cemented: the success of one at the indirect expense of the other, that gets continuously brought down physically and emotionally, reason why so many remakes took place. This duality is by far the most interesting aspect of the story, being that they're so different, including in their music styles, but how music at the same time unites them. As a couple, they have their moments, such as the performances and the composing periods, which at times bring excitement for their contribution. Most of the soundtrack is pleasing and the beautiful scenario is a positive on its own.

It also can't be ignored that A Star Is Born is severely overrated. The interactions between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are for the most part uninteresting, as both of them seem to be able to carry a conversation with almost no words spoken. The few other characters that are at times brought into the spotlight only appear to do a service for the main two, that already lack charisma themselves, and they either later disappear or linger around without much impact to the plot. Jack never really supports Ally for what she does when obtaining success which seems incoherent to the whole story as a whole, in which he seemed quite interested in her dreams too. The time skip is o.k, though there's seemingly nothing to be gained from it. Finally, it appeared greatly convenient that Jack's alcoholism only showed as a threat towards the later half of the movie, not even showing signs before that.

In general A Star Is Born is not bad despite the simplistic attempt on a new take of the myth. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are uninteresting and there are not many reasons to not give it a rating other 6.0 out of 10 stones, a simply above average movie.
