Day 19 - 01/19/2019

  After the success coming from Horrible Bosses, Jason Bateman stars in another lighthearted comedy movie. But what seems to be just another day for the competitive game-night couple, soon turns out to be a night of crime and danger.

  Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams) are perfect for each other, both being devoted game nighters and eager to destroy their friends on every chance they get. When being challenged by Max's brother, Brooks (Kyle Chandler), a rich and accomplished man that has everything sibling doesn't, the game-night teams compete on an unforgettable night that goes awfully the wrong way. 

 

  Game Night brings an incredible premise on its own, with epic scenes and charismatic couples (for the most part). The foreshadowing of the weird neighbor Gary (Jesse Plemons) is despite cringy on purpose, a huge comedic factor that is constantly used. Additionally, the competitive aura of the game night is contagious and brings the viewer to the position of a fan having to cheer for his team. Similar to Jesse Plemons, Chelsea Peretti plays a character than only appears once in a while but still manages to take the spotlight. 

 

    One main factor that stands out as a handicap for the movie is the couple Kevin (Lamorne Morris) and Michelle (Kylie Bunbury). They argue about the Denzel Washington event from beginning to end, getting stuck at the argument, not enjoying the night and showing their obnoxious personalities all along. This lame conversation rapidly gets annoying and the viewer is almost forced to cheer for them to get locked somewhere and not appear again. Another letdown is common to these kinds of films though, when the initial premise is so well planned and executed that is can't keep up and falls off towards the middle. This is more clearly visible during the chase scenes, that though have their own merit, elongate for quite a while.

    In the Game Night is the adventurous comedy that is the representation of "I'm going to have a good time, lets watch this movie!", it just can't go wrong. Therefore, it doesn't fall short of 7.4 out of 10 stones.
